In 2007 the NDIAA was formed at the Athletic Directors’ Conference in New Mexico. A group of Athletic Directors from Deaf Schools around the US had the same desire: to establish a committee consisting of Athletic Directors/Supervisors who would oversee the award selection process which prior to then had been done by for-profit organizations without consistency and fairness. To do so was in the best interest of our student-athletes.
Since then the competitive landscape has continued to evolve with an eye towards fairness and ensuring competitive balance in the face of varying state athletic association rules. In 2020-21, the NDIAA will be introducing a new set of competition guidelines for competition between Deaf Schools across state lines. We will be voting on and implementing the new rules at the upcoming Athletic Directors’ conference in Austin, TX.
Thank you for supporting us, our members and most importantly the interests of our student-athletes.
